The problem solver for renovating old buildings: WAKOL Z 590 Light Screed

Low-stress, cementitious lightweight screed for levelling and filling subfloors with large unevennesses

Larger unevenness and height differences can be quickly and easily repaired in the system with WAKOL Z 590 lightweight screed - even in areas with limited structural load-bearing capacity. The low-stress, cementitious lightweight screed is suitable for use in layer thicknesses of 20-300 mm in a system with WAKOL AR 150 Reinforcement Fibre and approved Wakol levelling compounds for levelling and filling substrates in bonded (from 20 mm) and on a separating layer (from 30 mm) in interior areas.

General advantages of the renovation system
-Quick renovation of larger unevennesses and height differences
-easy application
-good insulating properties
-low system weight of approx. 34 kg/m² (30 mm WAKOL Z 590 lightweight screed, WAKOL AR 150 reinforcement mesh and 10 mm WAKOL Z 515 Thin screed) compared to approx. 80 kg/m² for cement screed (40 mm)

Schematic structure

Wakol offers two system structures with the lightweight screed.

System structure no. 1

Installation with easily calculable consumption quantities and a smooth surface

Substrate preparation

*Step 1 // Set up WAKOL Screed edge strips (8 mm thick)
*Step 2 // Depending on whether work is to continue in bond or on a separating layer.

In combination with WAKOL D 3003 Dispersion Primer, depending on the substrate, WAKOL D 3004 Primer Concentrate, WAKOL D 3045 Special Primer or Pre-treat WAKOL Z 560 Fast Screed as bonding slurry with WAKOL D 3004 Primer Concentrate.

OR

When working on a separating layer: Lay out a PE film 0.2 mm thick, ensure crease-free installation.

Application of WAKOL Z 590 Lightweight screed

*Step 3 //

Mix the lightweight screed with 4.5-5 litres of water in a sufficiently dimensioned mortar bucket using a spiral mixer. Alternatively, a compulsory mixer or a compressed air screed pump (e.g. ‘Estrich-Boy’) can be used.

*Step 4 //

Install WAKOL Z 590 Lightweight screed at the correct height, e.g. using screed gauges, and level off. Then smooth with a screed float. Protect the surface from being walked on by other trades before applying the levelling layer.

Allow 24 hours drying time.

*Step 5 //

Lay out WAKOL AR 150 Reinforcement Fabric.

*Step 6 //

Smooth the surface with WAKOL Z 645 Filling Compound, dust-reduced or
WAKOL Z 640 Filling Compound mixed with WAKOL D 3060 Plastification Additive. The consumption of the plasticised compound is approx. 3-5 kg/m².

*Step 7 //

Full-surface levelling with approved Wakol levelling compound or
WAKOL Z 515 Thin Screed in a minimum layer thickness of 10 mm, using a pin squeegee and WAKOL height levelling pin. The consumption is approx. 15-18 kg/m².
The maximum layer thickness for cementitious levelling compounds is 15 mm.

Laying of the flooring / parquet can begin after complete drying.

Advantages:

  • Sufficiently even surface, even for smooth coverings
  • Easily calculable consumption quantity of the subsequent levelling layer
  • No floating of polystyrene parts on the surface
  • No slipping of the fabric when applying the levelling layer, e.g. with a pump

System structure no. 2

Rapid renovation without the use of plasticised filling compound

Substrate preparation

*Step 1 // Set up screed edge strips (8 mm thick)
*Step 2 // Depending on whether work is to continue in bond or on a separating layer.

In combination with WAKOL D 3003 Dispersion Primer, depending on the substrate, WAKOL D 3004 Primer Concentrate, WAKOL D 3045 Special Primer or
Pre-treat WAKOL Z 560 Rapid Screed as bonding slurry with WAKOL D 3004 Primer Concentrate.

OR

When working on a separating layer, lay a PE film 0.2 mm thick and ensure crease-free installation.

*Step 4 //

*Step 5 // Laying WAKOL AR 150 Reinforcement Fabric

*Step 6 // Full-surface levelling with WAKOL Z 515 Thin Screed in a minimum layer thickness of 10 mm, using a pin squeegee and levelling pins (consumption approx. 20-23 kg/m²). The maximum layer thickness is 15 mm.

After complete drying, the laying of the flooring / parquet can begin.

Advantages:

  • Plasticising operation not required
